Finally moving away from Jekyll

For a long time now, I’ve been trying to move my blog and website away from Jekyll. I never liked the base theme, and changing it proved to be a nightmare. Even after unleashing Copilot on this task, I was never satisfied with the results.

On a different topic, I also didn’t like Microsoft PowerPoint and his brother Google Presentation that much for making presentations. I loved Mermaid charts, and I wanted to use more of them, and I am also growing a lot of interest in simple text only tools.

I needed to do a presentation for work, and while I am not big on trying new tools, but my sheer annoyance with Google Presentations finally pushed me to explore other options.

Where did all of this lead?

I stumbled upon Quarto! It uses a flavor of markdown, incredibly flexible, and I can make beautiful presentations using text only. And I render Mermaid charts!! I delivered a kick-ass presentation that I was proud of.

After that presentation, I went throw most of the published documentation. It was indicated it can be used for websites, blogs and books.

I’ve moved that blog countless times now, between WordPress, Jekyll to Notion to Obsidian to …. I can’t keep count. Each time was more painful than the other. To ease the move this time, I just prompted Github Copilot. It took around a couple of hours of iterations, but finally the output is pretty good.

What I hope to find soon is WYSIWYG editor for Quarto. But for now, it looks neat enough 😇
